The biggest myth about Vastu is that fixing it means breaking walls. In reality, the vast majority of improvements are small, cheap, and reversible — placement, light, colour, and clearing clutter. Here are the fixes that move the needle without a contractor.

1. Clear the North-East

If you do only one thing, do this. The North-East is the zone Vastu values most, and it rewards emptiness. Remove heavy furniture, shoe racks, dustbins, and clutter from that corner of your home. Keep it clean, well-lit, and open. A single plant or a small water feature is welcome; a pile of storage is not.

2. Fix placement before you fix rooms

You usually can't move the kitchen, but you can move the stove within it. You can't relocate the bedroom, but you can move the bed so you sleep with your head to the south or east. A surprising amount of Vastu benefit comes from where things sit inside a room, not which room they're in.

3. Let light and air do the work

Open the east and north windows in the morning. Add lighting to dark corners, especially in the north and east. Vastu is, at its core, about light and air reaching a home well — so anything that improves natural light and ventilation is a genuine remedy, not a superstition.

4. Use colour intentionally

Colour is one of the cheapest tools you have. Cool, light tones (white, pale blue, light green) suit the north and east. Warm, earthy tones (yellows, terracotta, soft reds) suit the south and south-east. You don't need to repaint the house — cushions, curtains, and a feature wall are enough to shift a room's tone.

5. Anchor the South-West

The South-West should feel solid. Put your heaviest furniture — wardrobes, the master bed, storage — here. A heavy, grounded south-west balances a light, open north-east, and that balance is much of what "good Vastu" feels like in practice.

6. Repair what's broken

Leaking taps, jammed doors, dead bulbs, cracked tiles — Vastu treats a home in disrepair as a home with stuck energy. Fixing them is free or cheap, and it's remarkable how much lighter a space feels afterward.

The principle: renovation is the last resort, not the first. Placement, light, colour, and decluttering solve most of what a Vastu report will flag.

Know which fix matters most

The catch with remedies is knowing which ones actually count for your home. Vastu Sense ranks remedies by real-world impact for your specific layout and residents — so you start with the change that moves your score the most, not a generic checklist.
